Allure Decor brings customglass to remodeled homes

Tera Jackson’s journey from accounting major to general contractor to massage therapist to co-founder of Allure Decor and Jewelry is a lesson in versatility any entrepreneur can appreciate.

The Avon resident began her career as a contractor specializing in small waterfront projects in the Upper Peninsula and Lower Michigan.

“I have a strong desire all the time to create the three-dimensional,” said Jackson. “I always have to be building and making. I’m the one that wants to put the Legos together instead of reading a book.”

After Jackson was injured by a 35-ton crane at a marina she had spent 11 years developing, she began to rethink the industry she had chosen.

Together with business partner Larry Drost, Jackson began learning the art of making dichroic glass jewelry from a master artist Vincent Pernicano. They were naturals.

“The original idea was for us to manufacture Vincent’s product, and we learned very quickly. Within days we were making jewelry, but we found out quickly after we completely equipped our studio and our production center, you couldn’t teach people how to do what we did,” said Jackson.

Jackson’s dream wasn’t complete until she decided to tie her new passion to home remodeling.

“I had the idea that I needed to make knobs and pulls … they are so expensive for what you get, but I wanted something really nice, something pretty, something that would give a kitchen a whole flash,” she said.

Customizing her beautiful designs to fit a buyer’s unique home remodeling needs is Jackson’s favorite part of the process.

“We can make any size shape of knob, we can basically make anything anybody wants us to make,” she said. “I love doing the custom orders, that’s a lot of fun for me because they get to chose the color of glass they want and they get the final approval of the product before its made.”

Allure Decor and jewelry is still evolving to include new products as Jackson and her partner experiment, as long as she remembers them.

“My partner is the one who got me writing everything down,” said Jackson. “There is still one batch of glass that I cannot remake and people love it. I say, I’d love to but I can’t remember how I did it!”
